Founded in 1976 as a humanitarian organization based on Christian values, Habitat for Humanity has changed millions of people’s lives around the world.
Detailed description
Habitat for Humanity is currently operating in 75 states, in thousands of communities, and has built, rehabilitated, and repaired more than 800.000 houses, where more than three millions people live. HFHI was established on May 1st 1997. Until today, HFHI has served more than 40.000 families through housing programs, training, disaster response, and water and sanitation facilities. All of them spread over 59 districts in 13 province (Aceh, West Sumatera, Jakarta, North Sumatera, Kepulauan Riau, Lampung, Banten, West Java, Central Java, Yogyakarta, East Java, Bali, and North Sulawesi). At this time in Indonesia, the housing problem is something that demands urgent attention and greater awareness. Housing backlog has reach more than 14 millions unit with an increase each year reaching 800.000 units. While the ability to provide new housees just around 400.000 units each year. Especially in catalysm, number of approriate housing needs directly increased rapidly. Up until now, HFHI has served more than 16.500 families affected by natural catastrophes. HFHI Yogyakarta is the first branch established in Indonesia, almost simultaneously with the establishment of National Office of HFHI in Jakarta. This city is capable of providing volunteers especially from high school and college students, which is one of the pillars of HFHI’s program.
